Artist Statement:

The art making journey I have encountered has been exciting and inspirational.  I travel between two different styles in my personal art making and enjoy both of them in there own ways.  When I make pottery, I find joy in making the forms in a simple way then adding in more sculptural elements to begin a conversation with the work.  I find this part of my work relaxing and energizing as I can experiment with the finished look of the piece and let it tell me what it is trying to say.  Over the past 6 years I have experimented with pit firing as a surface treatment on my pottery.  As a learning process it has had good moments and bad, where the entire load is cracked or broken. I hope to begin pit firing on a regular basis as this journey continues as the results are surprising.  In those 6 years, I have been blessed with two children and a new place to call home.  As evident in my sculptural work I cherish my children and what they have given to me.  Although there are hard times I would not trade any of it.  I started incorporating decals, silkscreens, stickers, and found objects into my works over the past few years and have found that it helps bring in a new element of sharing to the works.  This style in my art making takes more artistic process than the later and still inspires me to continue.  I experiment with these new artistic concepts to try and enhance my storytelling.  This journey will continue, but what will I choose to tell you about next?
